A quality calibrated self-levelling tamper at a sample-sale price. This is one of our Sample Products - items we're not 100% happy with, offered at a heavy discount. It tamps exactly like our full-price version: the same calibrated spring self-levelling design that applies consistent, even pressure every time, with a walnut timber top, aluminium stem and stainless steel base.
The thing making it a sample rather than a full-retail product - it won't seat correctly in every single-shot basket. On standard double baskets it performs exactly as it should. If you only drink doubles - you're in luck!

Please read before buying

  • Single-shot baskets: this tamp does not fit all single-shot (1-cup) baskets, which are often narrower or tapered. Which is why we are selling heavily discounted. It works as intended on standard double baskets. If you only ever pull single shots, this may not be the right tamp for you.
  • Chrome-plated disc: the levelling disc has a chrome-plated finish rather than the stainless or aluminium finish on our standard tampers - a cosmetic difference, not a functional one.
  • Final sale: as a discounted sample item, all purchases are final - no returns, refunds or exchanges. Please make sure it suits your setup before ordering.

How it works

A calibrated spring self-levelling tamper takes the guesswork out of tamping. You press down until the internal spring clicks, and it applies the same consistent pressure on every shot - no more heavy-handed or uneven tamps. The self-levelling head also settles flat against the coffee bed, so your puck ends up level even if your hand isn't perfectly square. Consistent pressure and a level puck are two of the biggest levers on repeatable espresso, and this tool handles both for you.

It's the same mechanism as our 54mm Dual-Spring Self-Levelling Tamper - so if you'd prefer the full-retail version with our standard finish and no basket limitations, that's the one to choose.

Dedica 51mm - Bottomless Portafilter - Almond Solid Wood

Much better than the portafilter provided Delonghi, which would constantly get blocked with a fine grind. Given it's an after market unit, I do recommend holding it in place when extracting as it has the propensity to pop out.

Hefty and wellmade

After seeing some reports of portafilters ejecting from the Dedica line, I was worried about finding a quality portafilter that would fit correctly. However, after pulling multiple shots, it's clear this thing is well built and I have seen no evidence of ejection. It's heavier than the stock portafilter, made with better material, and looks great. I'm very happy with this.
